Dear Art Lovers,

Keli is now entering the 28th year of its journey exploring the rich and diverse forms of India’s artistic traditions. The forthcoming 3 day long Keli classical rhythm festival scheduled on 28th ,29th February and 1 March 2020 will focus on Thayambaka.

Thayambaka
Thayambaka is a solo rhythm performance usually performed on the Chenda. Thayambaka consists of a chief drummer, an associate and 10-12 accompanying drummers and cymbal players. Thayambaka performance starts with a slow tempo displaying the tonal purity of beats. Then, the Thayambaka enters the next phase showcasing the structural beauty of its rhythm pattern. Gradually, it enters the next stage of a mid tempo following which the performance progresses into a Faster tempo finally culminating into a vigorous, fast, thrilling and scintillating finale. Double Thayambaka is a more dynamic version of Thayambaka in which the ensemble will be led by two chief percussionists.
